top 3 of best drafting teams for the last decade

2017 was a masterpiece that dramatically raises our ranking

Our FO thinks they can 2017 every year and they've shown they cannot. That's exactly the problem.

Up there with the Ravens who everyone jerks off over.

Because the Ravens do it consistently pretty much every year. They also drafted an MVP QB in the late 1st, which is a feather our FO has yet to accomplish (and may end up as valuable as 2017 overall b/c of the value of elite QB play on rookie deals).

You take out the peak and valley over that decade and roll the tape back. I bet the Ravens are still towards the top and the Saints significantly slide. Our FO can't live of 2017 in perpetuity. Our FO already did it after 2006 which led to some REALLY bad drafting.

Per the media if you drafted Willis, Corral, Ridder, or Howell you “won” the draft. Never seen the media salivate so hard over late round QBs they they had crowned at 1-2 round picks.

It wasn’t a good QB class, QB have been overdrafted for so long it was great value to get those guys 3rd or later

There is some truth in the article. I believe that part of Loomis' thinking is that it's better to burn late round picks to move up and get the guys that you want rather than using them on players that are less likely to pan out. But the downside is that you end up in the very situation that we have been in for a while with having to pick the can down the road with the cap because you aren't able to benefit as much from the cheaper rookie deals. So far, they have been able to make it work. As for the "win now" mode versus what the article seems to suggest, which is that they should consider blowing it up to bring in young talent, THAT I do not agree with. This is a very good team and they really are just a few pieces away.

While we are at it, I hear a lot of fans a talking heads alike whining about the Saints drafting linemen in the first. I would challenge that them doing that is why they have been consistent playoff contenders. If your lines are solid, you can fill in the skill players. I like that they drafted for need and the they took another lineman in the first.
