Patently false. Having gone to public schools, but having family and friends who attended Catholic, U-High, Episcopal, and Parkview, I find that social circles are still, well into my 30’s, at least, largely defined by what school you graduated from. Baton Rouge is extremely cliquey, and hs is one of the ways in which these cliques define themselves.
