You knew him in law school but have had limited contact other than dropping in on his tailgate parties. While you may have believed him to be intelligent in law school, as you know that does not always translate into intelligent practice of law when engaged in the professional practice of one's career.

While you may find him to be a man of character, and he may be just that, you have no foundation other than you knew him in law school. You have no idea whether he has lived up to that ideal the past 15 to 20 years when you were both out of law school.

But we do know he used to throw a baseball very well and he has some nice tailgate parties so I see why he should have been elected judge. Unfortunately, the voters preferred that old grizzled veteran with that "eephus " pitch.
