Definitely not suckers. I have a couple Freedoms. They are huge producers here in Baton Rouge.
Check out this link that describes the primocanes you are seeing. LINK
Some primocanes will produce in a secondary crop later in the year (July-Oct), but our weather this far south isn’t that conducive for that crop. Those primocanes will develop floricanes that will absolutely be producers next year. So I would advise to only lightly trim.
