I would think he's trying to make it work. He can't force Zion to diet and spend every waking moment in a hyperbaric chamber. It's up to Zion at this point and if he won't do what it takes then he needs to be traded.

Griffin cannot really control his health, but they need to be on the same page about his timeline, and ultimately, Zion needs to be kept happy by whatever means necessary.
