Did you watch the Braves get robbed by Eric Gregg in the '97 NLCS against the Marlins? It's one of the most infamous performances by an umpire in the history of the game, and yet I bet you've never even heard of it.

Heard of it, watched it. You’re suggesting that it was ok that Maddux and Glavine consistently got six inches to a foot off the plate because that game happened? Yes, that staff did a great job of taking advantage of the way the zone was called then, but that doesn’t make it right.

And here, again, is an example of hyperbole and downright dishonesty. These guys never got SIX inches, let alone a foot off the plate. 3-4 inches was the most they ever got, and it was nowhere near consistently that. They would have been unbeatable if that were so. People have a nasty habit of saying that something just off the plate is 4 inches off, to where everything further than that somehow gets multiplied 3 inches for every actual inch off the plate it is. Some of you got your feelings hurt so bad by those Braves teams that you can't even attempt to be objective. How in the world, with all the talent those teams had, did they not win every single World Series in that run, if they were CONSISTENTLY getting "6 inches to a foot off the plate"? If that were remotely true, no one could ever have hit anything they threw. Every game would have been a shut out.

Get a grip on reality, people.
