Pitt almost literally played perfect defense that day. WVU's offense was based on getting one on one matchups in space and trusting that White, Slaton, and Devine would make someone miss to create a big play. It seemed like Pitt didn't miss a tackle in that entire game. That WVU offense being held to a single touchdown (Pitt ran out of end zone for a safety as time expired) by a miserable Pitt team is maybe the most shocking thing I have ever seen in a college football game. Pitt shoved 9 people in the box and Rich Rod was too stubborn to change things up. Then compound that with opponent having a terrible record so the guys were overconfident, MCafee missing 2 kicks he almost never missed, then Pat White being injured and out for about a quarter.
