Had to cuss out a hostess

Took the family and some friends out to dinner Saturday night, party of 8. Restaurant wouldn't take reservations so we showed up around 745 and got our name on the waiting list. One hour wait, not too bad for a Saturday night so we wait it out.
Hour later, get seated. Waitress comes over to let us know they're out of ribeyes, out of ham (for cuban sandwiches), out of sweet potato fries, and out of burgers. We could still get a burger but it would be two "kids' patties" stacked and they had to be cooked well done.
This place doesn't have a very extensive menu. She basically eliminated half the entrees by listing those items missing from stock. We all decided to call an audible and head out for sushi.
On the way out, I had to stop by to speak with the hostess. When we put our name on the list, and proceeded to wait an hour for a table, not once did she mention they were out of anything. Like, maybe it's just me, but it seems that telling a party of 8 that's about to wait an hour for a table that you're out of several main menu items is, I don't know, kind of her job?
I told her what I thought about the way she was doing her job and how her inability to do her job cost 8 people an hour on a Saturday night. Head chef happened to be walking by and asked what was going on. He half-heartedly agreed with me, apologized for being out of food, and walked away saying he hopes we come back.
I'm completely in the right thinking this hostess screwed up, right? If not her, then it was the chef for not telling her? Either way, not cool.

Dick move. Speaking with the manager to express your displeasure would have been my advice rather than cussing out the minimum wage hostess.

I would think that is on the manager and not the hostess. There was probably no communication between the kitchen staff and hostess on what they were out of and the hostesses were doing their jobs and getting tables seated. I would address it with a manager next time.

FWIW, she was also dissuading people from eating there due to the time of evening and was on her phone every time I saw her. This isn't some poor, innocent, hardworking person we're talking about here. She was awful at her job and our situation made that all the more evident.
I didn't holler, just told her I found it dumbfounding she didn't think to mention they were out of so much food, that we wasted a fricking hour of our time because of her ineptitude, and she should work to be better at her job.

They should have told you when you put your name on the list for sure. Stopping at the hostess stand on the way out the door to curse her out is a piece of shite move.

I literally talked to her for like 10 seconds. Said what I had to say, spoke to the chef for another 10 seconds, and was out the door.
