I doubt it was personal the first time. They were looking for somebody to stick it to. I have no problem with it if they give fair warning. I have a big problem with the timing of it, unless they literally scolded him on the pitch prior. Jay should've got tossed.
It was personal the second time. They had already called him on it once, and he started to do the same exact thing after the first pitch. Then, he put his toe in the very back corner of the box. It came across as smart assy. All fine for me if you can keep your head in the at bat. He never took the bat off his shoulders.

Still love Jay, but gotta admit I lost a little respect for him for not getting run Saturday. You don’t have to be Bobby Cox sippin’ a scotch and smoking a stogie in your office by the top of the 3rd twice a week, but his guys need to know he’ll fight for them. Especially this team. He’s asking a bunch of guys he didn’t recruit to go out and battle for him—they need to know he’s willing to do the same. There won’t be a better opportunity all year than there was Saturday. And even though that’s clearly not his style, I really think he blew it.
