99% of pool owners issues with water chemistry is not following the free chlorine:CYA relationship. The higher you raise your CYA (TABLETS!!!!), the more chlorine you need to increase.
Check your ph once a week (keep in the 7s) and that's it. Yes Calcium Hardness and Total Alkalinity play a certain role, but not in keeping the water clear.
+1 on getting a robot clean. Pressure/Suction side cleaners are like using a flip phone...old technology. Robots clean 100x better
