I happen to think that both Jordan and Tiger are the best ever at their sport. With Tiger, there really isn't an objective argument to be made that, at the height of his career, before the injuries, he was by far the best golfer of all time.
As it is, Tiger is tied for the most career wins on tour, and is second in majors. But the pace he was on before the injuries was something that Nicklaus wasn't close to.
Arguing that Tiger isn't the best golfer ever, is like saying that Sandy Koufax isn't one of the greatest pitchers of all time, because he didn't win enough games; ignoring the fact that injuries cut his career short.
And Tiger didn't just win tournaments. He often blew the field away like a football score. When he was really on, everyone knew it was over, and you could see it in their faces. I miss those days. I don't get much of anything out of watching a bunch of good golfers rising and falling in relevance. I liked watching utter dominance, and the chasing of history. That's something you probably only see once in a lifetime, and I'm really not sure it will ever happen again, in golf.

quote:I would make the argument that Tiger has been the most decorated golfer ever since 2008, maybe earlier. His amateur record, cut streak and dominance at his peak set him apart from everyone.
