You'll see people use it and report benefit from it. Personally, I don't think it helps as much as they would have you believe. Plenty of good looking lawns not using that stuff. Though on the flip side there are many golf courses etc that make this part of their routine.
With that said, it's not going to hurt...so just time and money if you choose to do it. It would probably the last thing I would do to help the lawn (proper soil amendments, npk apps, core aeration, etc etc all first)

Thinned out some tree limbs today.
Also looked at a couple of my dry spots my bermuda.
Found some decent size rocks just a few inches below the surface. Guess well see if tbay helps any at all.
