It depends on the artist. Some are just kick arse live, some I rather listen to their studio versions.
My all time favorite live album is "Songs in the Attic" by Billy Joel. That album contains perfect live recordings which out perform its original studio versions by a mile and more.

I really prefer live music over studio for the most part.
