I have not seen anybody state why they are adament to have a bear season.

About the only legit gripe i could label valid, is farmer crop damage. Lets hear reasons

Bears that aren't hunted get aggressive. Look at all the black bear attacks in GSMNP where hunting is illegal, then look at the bear attacks in the national forest lands all around it where bear hunting is legal.

Bears that shy away from humans tend to not get shot. Bears that want to frick around with humans and aren't afraid of humans do tend to get shot. Ergo, hunting bears trims out the bears that want to FAFO.

I encounter the black bear often. Had one with my pack in his mouth. That one got sprayed. Had momma & cubs on trail in dark. I simply detoured. Had a big male jaw clicking , ears back, slobbering, i just stayed in stand. He went on . Had one stand up on me. We just went our own way. ALL in La.

Had one come up and sniff my leg. I have that on video. Would be glad to post it if i knew how to.

I think it gets blown out of proportion from less woods experience folks and trend following
