I just looked at the weather over the Black Sea. Surface level Visibility is 5 miles or better in the northwestern Black Sea. Some fairly low ceilings averaging around 750-1000 feet.
Is that you calling bullshite on bad weather?

Bad weather isn't gonna bring down a fighter and a helicoptor. Too many variables for the operation of both.

quote:Not really. I mean it’s not terrible but it’s also not great either. Definitely dicey for a helicopter. The clouds seem to go from about 1000’ to 4-5000’. There is probably some icing associated with it that could have brought down the mig. Not sure what kind of anti icing systems that plane has. One would assume that 1960’s era jet doesn’t have much but then again it was made in Russia.

It does seem odd that two aircraft went down. The weather is bad enough that a pilot could get disoriented or get caught in some bad icing but two guys in a matter of hours is a stretch.
