Who do you think is going to shut it down? Putin isn’t going to unless the West puts massive sanctions on him. Germany will balk at putting massive sanctions on Russia in order to keep the gas flowing.

Not after his actions today. The Germans will be forced to go along with the sanctions. What Putin did today is a big deal.
BTW: Nordsream 2 isn't even in operation yet. The Germans have not sanctioned it. There is no gas running through that pipeline.

I don’t think Germany will go along with sanctions against Gazprom or the ND2 unless Putin launches a wide scale invasion. What Putin did today was put the de facto status quo of the past 8 years into writing.

What do you think will happen when Putin rolls the tanks in to drive the Ukrainian army off of the separation line and completely out of the Donbass. He didn't just recognize rebel occupied areas. The government still occupies sections of both republics.

Then the sanctions will hit. But I’d suspect that Putin will seek to avoid direct military confrontation with Ukraine and instead use some for of asymmetrical warfare/support to separatists to encourage Ukraine to concede the rest of the Donbas.

Ukraine will not do that unless somehow the west makes them. Zelinsky will not be interested in that at all. If he voluntarily gives up the Donbass he is going to have major political problems in Kiev. Their army cannot be forced back by separatists alone. In 2014 when Ukraine moved to crush the rebels Russia sent troops in to save them. There were Russian troops fighting along side the rebels. And at that time Ukraine's army was much weaker than it is now.
