Those are the old exemptions to the switchblade law that allowed for gravity knives, "spring assisted", and would have been interpreted to exempt things like BM's manual axis knives (SOG's arc lock is, more or less, their version of this), etc.
Think about this - not so long ago, Louisiana had stricter laws against switchblades than California.
(ETA: Long story short - switchblades are no longer prohibited items - essentially contraband - but an overeager Johnny Law can get you for carrying if it fits the statute.)

Yep, that's why I'm hesitant to pull the switch (pun intended). If I can't interpret this law on face value, then I'm sure there are a lot of cops who can't either, and I just don't want to waste my time and money fighting it in court.
