That article honestly confuses me, especially the second case (rape).
The first one, sounds like dude was in jail for five years because he couldn't make bail? He had one trial but it was declared a mistrial and has been unable to get a new trial since. So, despite never being found guilty or convicted of a crime, he spent 5 years behind bars and an additional 3 years out on bond? If the courts can't get this dude a trial within 8 years of being accused of a crime, I mean, I kinda get it. As the judge said, the man was not receiving justice. Also, the involvement of the Innocence Project, who I think VERY highly of, makes me further believe that the reason for the mistrial/hung jury was due to inadequate evidence.
The second one, I'm totally lost. Seems the dude was complaining about the jury? They granted him a new trial but then the DA offered him some sort of plea deal that, once rebuffed by his lawyers, led to his release? I don't understand what happened there, nor do I understand why Kim Kardashian is lobbying for the dude. Seems the DA definitely dropped the ball on this one.
