If you can get a possible Heisman candidate, you get the possible Heisman candidate.
Brennan was content on leaving until he had no competition as the starter, well if some miracle happens and you get Williams, will Brennan hit the portal again?

You absolutely go after Caleb if you can, with or without Brennan. If you think you can upgrade at any position and choose not to, shame on you. Let the rest play out.
FWIW. I think the Caleb to LSU smoke is real, but faint. USC is 1. And, that's fine - Brennan will be fine.

IF true, not saying it is, this would tell me that the coach was willing to welcome Brennan back when there were no options for an experienced qb, but there's some level of concern that he can take this team where it needs to go.
