Purebreds are adopted at a much faster pace than mixed breeds. Charging more for something more in demand is basic economics. It also helps pay for the mixed breeds (pit bulls) and older dogs to have a shelter longer than they would normally due to upcharge on purebreds providing capital to invest in larger facilities.
