this is my first time through. I find myself over-analyzing/trying too hard to pay attention so I don't miss anything that will later become important

You'll never catch everything the first or 20th time watching it. That is what makes the show so great. You can watch it repeatedly and focus on different characters as the main character (as much as possible) and catch different stuff every time. David Chase has always said nothing is in the show by accident. (presumably after season 1 took off, as Season 1 has plenty of accidents lol like Vito's twin, Pussy's alternate wife, everyones alternate wife at the wedding, one of the NY guys sitting at the Season 1 wedding, etc.).

I wouldn’t get too caught up in focusing on it like that. Not sure how old you are, but it’s become a totally different show for me from the 1st time I watched it at 21, and the 4th or 5th time I watched it at 34.

ETA: same thing happens with Mad Men for me.
