it was open season to blow Tony's brains out all over AJ's onion rings
I read this entire thread but this line made me
I also just finished a series re-watch for the first time since seeing it live. Enjoyed being able to piece more together than just watching what happens and trying to keep up like the first watch. The final scene has aged really well IMO after sort of being a punchline when it first aired.
If you're rooting for Tony, Phil's death would almost warrant a fist-pump with how it plays out; however, as previously mentioned it became Tony's death sentence and he wouldn't be lucky enough to have it happen in the hideout house.
If Tony's death is how the series had to end, how do you properly portray it? Chase's cinematography is as inventive as it can be without showing you the catastrophic ordeal the Soprano family would face seconds later. Especially if you didn't want the series to end, it was a tremendous way to finish the series.
