Looking to get a 3d sketch up of a set of built in corner bunk beds with stairs for a home addition. Nothing fancy. I have tried using auto cad but it’s a bit out of my wheelhouse.

I found sketchup to also have a pretty high learning curve personally

I use it regularly to lay out woodworking projects. Simple to get started with, but as the project gets more complicated, it takes time to figure out.

Used it plenty for 2D plans for shelves, cabinets, and beds. Very useful. Imagine it would be difficult for 3D stuff.

I use LibreCAD for 2d and FreeCAD for 3d.

Libre will open/save autocad files.

Both are open source.

Sketchup is easier to use initially but limiting the more complex your models are. Especially when trying to modify an existing model. FreeCAD is a parametric modeler which is a game changer for me. The free version of Sketchup is cloud based and limited in features.

FreeCAD takes more time to wrap your head around, but it’s worth it to me.

Mostly just for schematic renderings. Full models I do in Revit and detailed items like patent sketches I use AutoCAD.

Chances are you can find some skp models of bunk beds on the internet and modify them for what you want.
