There were never transfers like what we see today say 3+ years ago.

That's not the portal though. That's due to rule changes.

The portal is just a list of names. The ease of communication that comes with the portal may be a small contributing factor, but the other rule changes are what is really driving the traffic.

The instant eligibility to play when you transfer has to be done away with now with NIL to stop the poaching of players while the season is still active and suddenly the player is "hurt" because he wants to go play with the other team that is offering more money...

So, I started this thread, and I just want to be clear. Yes, I DO long for the days of yore when you played for the ole Whatsamatta U with pride. I do long for the days when kids were thrilled to get that offer from their childhood favorite university, and play for their dream school. I do long for the days when love of the game was paramount.
I totally understand that these kids were being exploited for monetary gain by their universities, and other than tuition and under-the-table money, that was all they were gonna get.
It is not right that someone can profit from your image, and effort, and you not receive your due. So the not wanting NIL issue, for me, is not an issue. They deserve to be compensated.
It's the transfer portal, COMBINED with NIL, that is causing the chaos. This is bordering on greed.
