The wife and I started this last week and have finished season 1. I was pretty underwhelmed.
First of all, is all this horrible stuff happening in like a month? I remember them saying it was April at some point.
They just straight up murder people. Most are folks who haven’t really done anything to warrant that. I’m not sure why I want to watch four more seasons of this.
It feels kind of soap opera-esque where you are just supposed to forget stuff from a couple of episodes ago. It could be so much better if Costner’s character wasn’t such a terrible person and was actually a little more cunning and clever. He just kind of relies on killing people.
The scenery is amazing and I think the characters are fleshed out pretty well. I just don’t like them. It’s kind of hard to like murderers.
I don’t get the love affair with Taylor’s stuff. We watched 1883 a while back and it definitely didn’t stick the landing.

I'm sure it's known, but Taylor Sheridan is Chief David Hale in Sons of Anarchy. Gets killed in season 3 I think.
Once you figure that part out, the comparison makes perfect sense.

we've tried Yellowstone a few times and it's a bit over the top. we did 1883 and agree, but i did like it. we're in the middle of 1923 as well. some of the same tropes and eye rolling decisions.
that being said, sicario, hell or high water. wind river, tulsa king, and Lawman:Bass Rivers are pretty well done stuff. imperfect but well written.
he's better writing than directing.
