I got a standing desk that I'm using at home a couple of months ago and I'm hoping to add a little treadmill to go under it for Christmas so that I can start increasing my steps throughout the day. Getting in a 30-45 minute walk each day is great, but if I can do that + walk and work at the same time then I think I'll be able to easily get to where you're at on the steps per day thing without feeling like I'm having bail on work to make it happen.

I get my steps in while I workout. I walk to the gym (2.5 mile roundtrip) and walk during the rest period between sets. I've also started walking to the grocery store with one of the icechest backpacks if I only need a small amount of items; that one is 3.5 miles roundtrip. Both of these are on a levee trail so it's a very peaceful and calming walk.
Getting steps in gets much easier when you want to do it. Walk to the mailbox (.5 mile round trip), walk the aisles of the grocery store (STICKING TO YOUR LIST) instead of curbside, stop hunting for close parking spots, etc. Many small changes will add up quick.
