No John was coaching Georgia Tech at the time. His team went 6-3 in 1908 and lost 44-0 at home to the same Auburn team LSU beat 10-2 on the road.

This win by Auburn along with the win vs Georgia, was a let down to the Atlanta sports writers.

good stuff man

let us know when the book comes out.

I have a print on my wall that says "LSU Champions of the South: 1908"

My gf asked what "of the south meant". I told her same thing as this- pointing to a 2003 BSCNC print.

When did the last member of the 1908 team die? My guess is late 70s or early 80s. Are there any interviews on record with the player(s)? I am assuming all are deceased because they would be about 120 years old today.

It always seemed to me that if LSU would have lost that game, Auburn would have claimed the first CFB national championship by a team from the South for that same year, since their defenses put up a goose egg for every other game they played in '08. It's so strange to hear people claim Penn should get a title due to their tough schedule, when LSU's road game against Auburn was a much better quality win than anything the Quakers had, especially considering Carlisle's ugly losses to Harvard and Minnesota. And don't even get me started on Harvard's season that year. Calling Harvard a NC that year is the biggest joke of all.
