The NIL intent was to give kids the ability to make some cash while in school and playing ball.

The end result is enticing players to come to your school by outbidding your competitor!

It will get out of hand quick, and hard to reverse, IMO.

The NCAA did not benevolently "allow" NIL to exist. In fact, they vehemently fought against it until the USSC ruled UNANIMOUSLY that prohibiting college players from being compensated for others' use of their Name Image and Likeness was a violation of anti-trust law.

The schools aren't paying the players anything. In fact, the schools aren't allowed to facilitate such endorsement deals in any way. Essentially, you have wealthy boosters/fans that are using their businesses (or creating "charities") to "hire" players for endorsement deals. If Bob Gray of Bob Gray's Hyundai/Kia dealership feels $500k is a reasonable price to pay in exchange for the A&M starting QB to endorse his auto dealership, who's to say he's wrong? It's Bob's money.

However, we are in the infancy of this situation. The fun will begin when we start to see many 18-19 year old kids really frick over some wealthy people by taking the money and bolting without a "just" return on that investment.
