Arnsparger is also the douche that told LSU to hire someone else over Spurrier and then went to Florida and hired him. He did more to hurt LSU football than any Coach in my lifetime.
Jesus this myth has gotten out of control the power of 20/20 hindsight Arnsparger left after the 1986 season Spurriers coaching experience at that time was in the USFL and as OC at Duke. He was such a hot commodity that besides LSU Alabama Texas and USC all hired someone else while SOS got the Duke job (the ACC back then was more like the AAC today). LSU promoted Arnsparger DC, that was very common back then. I would certainly hope BA recommend a guy he hired.
It wasn’t until 1990 that he hired Spurrier at Florida AFTER SOS had Duke in the top 25. He could have just as easily hired the Florida alum and legend at Florida if he was coaching LSU vs Duke so the idea that he purposely recommended LSU hire someone else so he could hire Spurrier 4 years later is just fan nonsense

Joe Dean (who should’ve taken the comments with a grain of salt and evaluated Spurrier
Dean wasn’t the AD when that coaching hire was made and again go look at Spurrier’s resume BEFORE 1987. Too many can’t separate what he became from what he had done up to that point which isn’t much
