If you read the story, it seems like she may have been too dressed up for him. It goes on and on about how he doesn't like her with makeup and was ok going to dinner with her dressed like that, but didn't want to go to this party with her dressed up. It's strange and doesn't make sense.

I find it "funny" he's considered controlling for that but woman aren't when they tell their man what to wear.
