LOTR is instant nostalgia to my junior high years
Rented Fellowship DVD and had no idea it was a trilogy.. but quite bummed there at the end
Saw Twin towers at my local theater
Saw Return of the King in NYC in Times Square on a Sunday. I remember vividly the theater seated 2,000 people and the ticket was $14 in 2003

I don't know why, but LOTR is just far better watched during the holiday season.
Perhaps it's because of the strong religious undertones in Tolkien's works, but it just fits.
BTW, the Fellowship of the Ring Extended version is probably the best as semblance of fantasy work ever put in film.
And I used to be a Two Towers guy, but Fellowship, to me, is now the far superior film.
