What companies use their own towers? Where I live is in the middle of nowhere in Ascension and if we have to call 911, we get Livingston then have to wait to be transferred to Ascension. Thankfully we haven’t been in any life threatening situation!

Only the big three: AT&T, Verizon, and TMobile.
Every other option is what’s called a “mobile network operator” that simply partners with one or more of the Big 3 to hitch a ride on their network, usually at lower priority but also lower cost. Some of these are outright owned by one of the Big 3: AT&T owns Cricket, TMobile owns Metro, etc…
DISH is supposedly building out its own network to become a 4th major provider, but it remains to be seen if they actually do it and to what extent.
