For the first time LSU is not making a king or having a guy making a name for himself, we have a king! We hired a guy who has done everything but win a national championship at the highest level

Ed Orgeron winning a NC cemented the perception of just how strong a program and job LSU is.

In 2021 you look at Saban's NC at LSU and say "well, of course he won one." With Miles, you could say he took what Saban built and sustained it. You could even argue his NC was partially comprised of Saban recruited players.

But Ed winning a NC? No one could have predicted that. The guy (even before the last two seasons) was looked at by the rest of CFB as a good recruiter, but otherwise a cartoon character who had so little football understanding (relative to most D-1 coaches) that he NEVER should have been hired as a power conf HC. Yet, HE dominated CFB for one season...something he NEVER could have done at any other school.

Even before Kelly was hired the pendulum had shifted from you can win a NC at LSU to you probably WILL win a NC at LSU. Kelly hasn't hidden the fact that's why he is here. A NC is the one thing he doesn't have in an otherwise great coaching career. He knew he could get close at ND, but probably wasn't going to get one. So at 60 years old he saw a place where the last 3 HC's have gotten the one thing he wants.

If Kelly gets a NC then I think the debate probably ends that LSU is the best place to go if you want to win a NC.
