OK, I posted a question here about whether anyone here heard of something called the Gun Buying Club.

Basically you pay around fifty bucks a year to join, and you can buy as much as you want. Honestly, I haven't seen anyone touch the prices that they offer.

I saw a few posts on it at a few different forums. Some who used it were positive. Others said just buy from Buds. I saw a few posts a year of two ago from the guy who runs it, Mike Young.

Anyways, I decided to take the plunge since I was going to be buying a decent amount of material to build an ar or two.

I sent an email late on Saturday night about something, and I got a response within an hour. I then decided to go ahead and order a few things using a credit card just in case things didn't work out (cash price is cheaper by 2.9% because of the credit card fees).

I ordered them on Sunday. I quickly received confirmation and on Monday received emails saying that most of what I ordered had been shipped and was scheduled to arrive on Tuesday.

So, I haven't received anything yet, but I have to say my first impressions are very positive. So, the benefits are lots of things to buy at one site with a great price. Honestly, I haven't seen anyone beat them. I have seen a few approach them for a few things, but no one really matches these guys. Great speedy service with unbelievable shipping times. Shipping rates are cheap as well. And not only are the prices great, service great and quick, but no taxes! Unless you live in Florida.

Now this is a preliminary post because I haven't gotten anything yet. But I see people posting about a lot of different places to buy things.

If I was going to buy a gun in person, honestly I haven't found a place cheaper than Academy. They have great price and selection. Way better than Bass Pro shop and Cabellas. Better than my local gun shop, who does have pretty good prices.

But the internet is a usually cheaper than Academy. Buds has good prices, but these this club has them beat in both prices and selection.

Anyways, at this point, I am tickled. Mike seems like a good guy. But will keep you updated.

OH, and btw, I blame the outdoor board for wanting to get an AR. And then I blame the outdoor board for making me want to assemble my own. I had a lot more free time before I started reading here.

And no, I don't know if they sell the judge...

I want to get one too. I think I am going to try and build it myself, so I have been keeping up with your posts.

I will do that. I should be getting the first portion today. I still have to get him my ffl for the lowers. I didn't think I needed to move this quickly!

Anyway, like I said, preliminary.

Damn, I had no idea anyone actually read my posts. Anyway, it seems interesting.

Buying what I plan to assemble already assembled would have been around a thousand or 1100. I think the parts from this place are costing me around 650 bucks. That is not bad.

AR15.com and AR15Armory.com I think are two sites where there is a lot of good information. The first is for the pros. The second seems a bit more welcoming of newbies.

Anyway, I don't know what you are wanting. Some people want to go with a tactically tricked out AR like they are going to be making SWAT entrances on a routine basis. I don't see myself doing that.

I wanted something that shot straight. So no chrome barrel and a higher twist rate in the barrel. The newer ARs can be built to be very accurate.

I will keep you updated and let you know what I ordered if you desire. You can just start your own thread asking for advice here. Everyone here is helpful.

Just be careful when they tell you to buy a judge!

Pretty much everything.
Unless your sole intended use is for shooting snakes.

The judge thing was a joke. I just threw it out there so someone else didn't.

On a side note, what do people know of the nikon 223 scopes? That is what I got to mount on what I hope to be building soon.

IDK what Academy you shop at but everyone I have ever been to has a gun rack about 30 feet long. The prices may be cheaper, but there is no way they have a better selection than Cabela's, BPS or my local gun shop.

Update:

Just got home. Waiting at the door were two big boxes.

In the one box are two bushmaster predator 20 uppers.

In the other box are 2 daniel defense lower receiver parts kits, 2 bushmaster 6 position adjustable stocks, a range bag and a toolkit.

On a side note, I order amazon at about the same time. As a prime customer, I needed it so I upgraded to overnight.

This place actually got me my stuff before amazon did!

I still have to get them my guys ffl. I didn't have any idea it was going to get here that quickly.

So, after I get them the ffl, I expect to have stripped lower quickly if this is any indication.

All I am waiting on now is one nikon 3-12 m223 scope and mount. Very pleased so far.

On second thought, saying I was very pleased so far would be an understatement.

OK, this thing is easy. I just emailed Mike a name and number to call to get my ffl and he took care of the rest.

The ffl has been received already and the Nikon scope and the lowers will be shipped soon.

BTW, again, anyone know anything about the nikon 223 scopes?

OK, everything is in, I just need to get the lowers from my ffl.

Mike did a great job at the gun buying club. I think I will buy another one from him later this year. I think I will get the remington sr25 in 308 for hunting down here.

I hear that the 223 is too small for deer, even though the deer down here in texas are quite a bit smaller than PA.

Anyway, the current update is all the parts are here, I just need to get them and then assemble them.

The next update hopefully will be with me saying how easy it was to put together. Or I will come on there cursing about how impossible it was and how I kept losing those little springs...

Good post. Post some pics when you finish your builds. Are you building two identical ones?

Nikon makes quality scopes, so I'm sure that this scope will be good.

Its not too bad... the problem will be one of the roll pins. What kind of gas system are you using the regular or you going to install the piston system?

Its just the complete bushmaster predator upper.

I'm not building an upper yet. Calm down there.

The lower is all I'm putting together. I may have to get a vise to hold it while I'm building it...

And yes, building two.

If they go well, I may build a lightweight one for me.

I was thinking about building a 308, but I have heard that the parts are not interchangeable and thus it might be better to buy one straight off the rack.

How did I find what? you have to be more specific.

There are lots of videos on youtube demonstrating how to do it. There are websites like ar15.com and ar15armory.com that have printable instructions.

The website I bought my stuff from was

gunbuyingclub.com

I got a gunsmith toolkit there as well.

I got the impetus to actually do it this way from this website. And heck, it is going to cost me a good bit less to put it together than to buy it assembled. Putting two together more than saved me enough to actually build a third if I wanted.
