Also says that the only other known return for touchdown after a missed field goal is from a Clemson team against Georgia in 1968.
Good read by Rabalais.

Was a good read - nice post.
I've seen teams work on these returns in the past and always thought there has to be something better to do at practice that is a little more useful to use practice time for, but when they got 6 points out of it, I was almost ready to change my mind.

What is crazy is that teams do not practice this. Coach Miles said that the offensive lineman on field goals aren't use to have to chase down a guy like that. UAB probably only had 4 or 5 guys out there who could run a 4.6 forty.

Should have been added to his rushing totals according to the NCAA rules.
Didn't have to create a new "misc" category.

What would have happened if he would have gotten tackled short of the end zone? Do we get the ball there, or does it go back to the original line of scrimmage?
On a blocked extra point return, if the defense is returning it, does that count as any kind of all-purpose yards?
So many questions . . .

Seeing him block the field goal from back there would have been pretty sweet too, but i'll take the 109 yard missed field goal return TD. Stupid NCAA doesn't recognize 100+ yard returns. But they do count a return from the 1 as 100 yards as the TCU returner did against LSU.

"SECTION 5—TOTAL OFFENSE AND ALL-PURPOSE RUNNING
Article 3. All-purpose running is the combined net yards gained by rushing, receiving, interception returns, punt returns, kickoff re- turns and runbacks of field goal attempts. All-purpose running does not include forward passing yardage."

that's not rushing, that's running. Completely different

what are you laughing about? It says running and passing are separate.

The 2 bolded words are not equal. One is the sum of the parts, the other is a part in that sum.

Rushing and running are completely different stats.

I don't see how he's missing this when he keeps posting that running is made up of multiple things, one of which is rushing. That clearly shows that rushing=/=running.

The run back of an attempted field goal should have been added to his all purpose yards and eventually was.
But didn't need a new category for it.

are you now realizing that rushing and running are different? and clearly they didn't have a separate stat category for the run back of a missed field goal which is probably used to figure out all-purpose yards. I think whoever input the stat categories missed that one.

Should have just added it to his rushing totals.
But the NCAA could frick up anything
