BCS leaders focus on four postseason options

"The plans range from a long-discussed "plus one" format — after the bowls play out, selecting two teams to meet for the national championship — to a heretofore undisclosed four-team playoff proposal that could expand the semifinals to preserve an annual Big Ten-vs.-Pacific-12 matchup in the Rose Bowl.
In the latter plan, the four highest-ranked teams at the end of the regular season would meet in semifinals unless the Big Ten or Pac-12 champion, or both, were among the top four. Those leagues' teams still would meet in the Rose, and the next highest-ranked team or teams would slide into the semis. The national championship finalists would be selected after those three games."
would LOVE to see the Tigers lay the smackdown on some other OOC "powerhouses"

What a crock, we moved on from leather helmets why the hell can't the Rose bowl give it up and get out of the way of progress.

The Rose Bowl needs to get over itself

I think all conferences other than the Big 10 and Pac-12 should get together and say, "We're having a playoff. You don't want in, that's fine with us."
Believe me, they would get over themselves right quick and join in. Imagine the flood of recruits away from those schools if they didn't.

What a stupid idea. Who would have played for the NC this year? LSU and Alabama again? For a third time? Or would they have skipped #2 (AFTER THE BOWLS) and had Alabama play Oklahoma State?

Wow, even worse. So, USC could be #2 and would play in the Rose Bowl against the Big Ten champion, which could be #10 or something. Meanwhile, #1 would play #5 and #3 would play #4. Then, the NC game participants would be "selected"? So, LSU at #1 has to beat #5 to get into the NC game, while #2 USC only has to beat #10? Ridiculous.
Or, LSU is #1, Oklahoma is #2, USC is #3 and Michigan is #4. #1 has to play #2 to get into the NC game while #3 gets to play #4? How fricking stupid is that?
James Carville is right. The Rose Bowl needs to just go away. It has always been the hangup that threatens to ruin whatever progress there is toward having a real national championship.

Also being weighed is a conventional four-team playoff with various playing-site options, one of them placing semifinals in the home stadiums of higher-seeded teams. The BCS also could stick with an amended version of its current format.
No brainer. Obviously the best of the three ideas mentioned.

"The underlying theme of all this," Hancock said, "is to protect the regular season. That keeps coming up and keeps coming up and keeps coming up. We have the best regular season in sports, and we don't want to mess with it."
Stupid frickers. They destroyed the importance of the regular season on December 4, 2011.

That's basically what happened in 1995. All but those two conferences and the Rose Bowl formed the Alliance. By 1998, the BCS was in place, including all the major conferences and bowls. The same thing would happen again with a playoff.

The problem is, the Rose Bowl believes it is the college football equivalent to The Masters. And as long as people treat them that way, then they will continue to think the BCS and college football need to make concessions for them. CFB and the BCS should just tell them "this is how it's going to be, you are either on board or you are not". Let them make an educated decision based on those terms.

Yeah, i could not care any less about the Rose Bowl.

That would be worse than the current setup

uggghhhh just another example of idiots making stupid decisions based on crap already in place instead of taking a step back and finding the best solution that makes the most sense. Why can't they just have faith in the fact that they might just actually be FIXING a broken piece of crap and that the fix might be so freaking so good that IT becomes something worth preserving.
Just like the stupid crap in the SEC where Missouri is going to be in the east although it is actually further west than most of the west teams. Stupid
Are a better example is trying to preserve cross division rivalries instead of putting those two frickers in the same division to start with.
Preserving all this bullcrap rivalry/tradition games is preventing them from setting up the system in a logical manner that makes sense and is the most fair.

Oh well, its a way to expand the # of participants.
So, the #10 Big10 champ gets in and beats the Pac 10 guys.
Good.
Then neither of them would be in the semi's.
