I'm putting this here just because this could greatly affect LSU in the future. Sorry if it's already posted somewhere else.
NCAA President Charlie Baker calls for new tier of Division 1 where schools can pay athletes
Edit I see another post on this beat me by a few minutes. To show what I think of this idea, I've down-voted my own post.

he wants the association to create a new tier of NCAA Division I sports where schools would be required to offer at least half their athletes a payment of at least $30,000 per year through a trust fund.
quote:
Baker’s proposal is aimed at creating a new subdivision, covering all sports, where the richest athletic departments in the so-called Power Five conferences — the Big Ten, Southeastern Conference, Big 12, Atlantic Coast Conference and Pac-12 — can operate differently than the rest, while still competing with the rest of Division I
quote:
Baker noted athletic budgets in Division I range from $5 million and $250 million annually, with 59 schools spending over $100 million annually and another 32 spending over $50 million. He said 259 Division I schools, however, spend less than $50 million on their athletic programs

The NCAA has become a useless and antiquated entity. If the SEC leaves then everyone will follow.

This won't happen. As another poster said, Title IX will play a role here. I also don't think most schools will be willing to pay everyone $30K. The site linked below says LSU has 558 student athletes (not sure if accurate or the most reliable). That would be a $16.74 million dollar expense per year.

P5 doesn't compete with G5, otherwise Liberty would be in the playoffs. A G5 team will NEVER win the championship.
They need to fricking drop that pretense, no one's stupid enough to believe it.
...well, except for maybe aggies.
