Announcers in the Tenn/UGA game claiming how it makes no sense for Mizzou to come into the SEC and will kill regional strength of the league. Also said, why would you want to come to a league and be 8th or 9th at best.

Gotta give ESPN credit, they will try to save their cash cow anyway they can.

Im glad people are realizing what this is. Granted we played bad today. But I dont see how one team will KILL the strength. Ridiculous.

What are you talking about? The SEC is a cash cow too (for them).

They want to save the Big XII for UT and the Longhorn Network's sake. Trust me on that. It was pretty blatantly obvious what those announcers were trying to do.

Kill is a little strong

Dilute is more appropriate

espn tried to kill a&m to the sec...i doubt their attempts work on mizzou. if mizzou doesn't come it will be because they pussied out at the last minute.

It's now more about preserving the Big XII for ESPN. That is their agenda. Losing Mizzou puts them back at 9 assuming TCU comes.

Right on target.

It's amazing we didn't hear half of the shite they're spewing about Mizzou to the SEC when TCU went to the Big East...go figure.

a new SEC tv deal may lead to an SEC Network similar to BTN...

I would think an SEC Network would make more money than the BTN though.

I think they saw the writing on the wall with A&M.

there is zero dilution of the on field product in losing mizzou and adding wvu. ESPN is crying over lost tv sets.

That's not really a comparable situation in which you'd have expected ESPN to act similarly. For one, ESPN has none of the MWC's television rights. Also in going from the MWC to the Big East, TCU would be going from first tier program in one league to first tier in another. Mizzou is going from clearly the top of the second tier in the Big XII to a much more crowded second tier in the SEC, essentially placing them only above Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Ole Miss.

Don't underestimate ESPN's agenda....they are UT's corporate partner.

They ran a smear campaign against A&M during the exit process (and will continue to), and now they're doing it against Mizzou.

They are the same power than CNN/Fox News are in terms of driving public perception to fit their needs.

You are noticing an anti-Mizzou moving bias right?

Imagine that directed at any school not named "University of Texas" in conference year in and out. That is what drove our admins to leave. The rest of us just wanted out to the SEC for what I deem obvious reasons.

If you think about it, it's very tactically sound. Here are some discrete facts:

1. The Big XII is unstable
2. The SEC is extremely stable
3. Both are properties of ESPN
4. Mizzou leaving the Big XII further destabilizes it
5. Mizzou joining the SEC will not further stabilize it as it is not unstable
6. There is no equal-caliber replacement for Mizzou in the Big XII
7. Further destabilization of the Big XII makes it more likely for other members to leave, even Texas and OU
8. Several Big XII schools are on the PAC's radar, namely Texas and OU, but also Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech
9. If the PAC 12 expands at all, Big 12 schools comprise all but one of the viable targets (BYU)
10. The PAC 12's rights are split between Fox Sports, ESPN, and the new PAC 12 network and its regional affiliates operated by Fox Sports
11. If the Big 12 collapses, Kansas, Kansas State, TCU, and possibly Iowa State and Baylor will likely go to the Big East
12. While the Big East is an ESPN property currently, the conference declined a contract extension and opted for the open market
13. NBC/Universal has been making overtures regarding the Big East and their plans for a new sports network (at least they were prior to the Syracuse, Pitt, and TCU departures)

Through all of this, you can see how ESPN is trying to protect themselves from losing members and basically the line-up of an entire conference to another network or networks, including losing the bulk of the programming of two of the most followed schools in the country in OU and Texas.

No it will be because they could not get 9 SEC votes.

True, but TCU's abandoning the Big East before it even got there to join the Big XII is pretty much right on point. But no objections from ESPN.

And here's why:

quote:

12. While the Big East is an ESPN property currently, the conference declined a contract extension and opted for the open market

There's nothing wrong with a company's advancing its own interests. But reporting the news carries with it at least some obligation to be neutral and stick to the facts. ESPN's disguising its corporate PR campaigns as reporting or even editorial opinion is deceptive and inappropriate.
