sip grads or sip t-shirt fans
quote:I can't tell you how shocked I'd be if this rivalry is interrupted. Anytime ESPN does a "What's the best CFB rivalry ?" poll, UT/A&M is always one of the choices. It never wins (some bullshite near the Great Lakes always does), but its inclusion in the short list shows that it's a premier rivalry. Canceling this game would be incredibly foolish.
I agree, when Arky left it accelerated the already doomed SWC. Thats beside the point though. Playing a rival OOC is nothing new for Texas. They played OU for +80 years OOC. The only people who are saying that the rivalry won't continue if we move to the SEC is the longhorns. That's flat out ridiculous. We even have the legislature on our backs now about leaving, when they never said anything about Baylor getting left behind in the proposed move to the PAC 10.

Sip is short for t-sip. It started around WWII when A&M students were off in the military fighting the longhorns stated at home sipping on tea

Also, UTa has one of the best journalism and filmography depts in the nation. A&M did away with it's journalism degree about 10 years ago. Horrible decision IMO

I'll see your vocabulary, and raise you a lexicon.
In all seriousness, as BK said, it is said to have originated from the WW2 era. Texas A&M began an accelerated program to pump as many students into service ASAP, while Texas did nothing of the sort. It was said that while the aggies were out fighting, the longhorns were 'at home, sipping tea'. It is also a derogatory reference to the more 'white collar' purpose of TU originally, as it was a liberal arts school, vs A&M as a more 'blue collar', agricultural and military school. The idea being, of course, that Texas grads were pussies who did not abide the hard liquor of the aggies.
(The A&M is for Agricultural and Mechanical, not Military. Wouldn't want to give that impression.)
(The A&M is for Agricultural and Mechanical, not Military. Wouldn't want to give that impression.)
Oh, that part I know.
The UT/A&M rivalry, and specifically the social differences of the fan bases, reminds me a lot of Ole Miss and State. Regardless of location, blue collar people are usually State fans, whereas total homos are Ole Miss fans.

Not so much difference nowadays, with the exception of the fields of work. A&M graduates the lion's share of the Texas oil and agriculture industry. Lot of money in that. TU is still the place to go for a law degree or an MD. Business schools comparable.
The historical differences in the schools also contributes to the hatred. A&M went a very long while as a small, tight knit school. The military culture of us vs them runs strong at A&M. The 'Aggie Network' is second only to the West Point Protective Association in the Army, and is crucial in the state of Texas for job hunting in a variety of aggie dominated fields. I've seen numerous people who got their job over someone else in Texas because they were an aggie.

I was hired by an Ag before he asked me my GPA or what I majored in
But I'm a total fricking badass so it was a smart move

Let's play make-believe: The SEC adds A&M and Florida state. It decides to expand to 16 a year later. The teams: Georgia Tech...and Texas. Equal revenue for all, and everybody gets to make tv networks if they want.
Yea or nay?
Yea or nay?

Hell no. Once we are in I'm going conference elitist and telling everybody to stay the eff away from my badass conference because it's perfect the way it is

Deal killer there. I'd be fine with Texas and Georgia Tech, but the LHN has no place in the SEC.

I think A&M would say nay. We are leaving the big 12 in part because of Texas' antics with their network. We just want a unified, stable conference. If we wanted a network, I think we could get one. Texas people keep telling us that they offered to make it a joint network with us and TU, and we said no. I don't see us saying 'yes' just because we are in the SEC.

Are you certain that A&M will leave the Big 12?
