Would love to see UK, Duke, and UNC in the same conference, but there's little to no chance it happens. I could see the two going to the Big 10 because it is a better fit academically, but I would imagine their preference is to stay in the ACC.

The current ACC football rotation doesn't have annual WF/UNC or NCSt./Duke games.

you're right, but on Tobacco Road football is just something to kill time until basketball starts.

Good stuff, Chap. Either the ACC or Big East needs to make a big move, and fast; the slower of the two will probably die or suffer a near-fatal blow when the next dominoes fall.

The only thing holding the Big East back is the dilemma that has them wondering whether to take Big 12 schools, ACC schools, or both, and whether or not to split the football and non-football schools (they can make it work with the non-football schools. No size is too big).

And it's because of that dilemma that I think the ACC needs to act fast. Take four, NOW, and take them from the Big East. If you had to take four right now, who would you take?

Me: Syracuse, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and Rutgers would top my list.

Rutgers is an AAU school and a virtual lock to join the Big Ten when it expands again. I bet they hold out on the ACC.

Pitt is an AAU school (surprisingly), but would jump to the ACC since it is likely Penn State will block them from the Big Ten.

WVU...well, I think the ACC looks down on them. In the end, they will have to sink or swim in the Big East.

Syracuse dropped out of AAU and was the first one left out of the ACC when VA Tech got it. Bet on them to the ACC this time around.

School to remember...UConn. If Pitt and 'Cuse join old Big East friend BC in the ACC, UConn is a logical follower.

Wildcard...Villanova, who is on track to be FBS in football. If Maryland ends up in the SEC or Big Ten (I would guess the latter), 'Nova and their Philly market to the ACC makes even sense.

New ACC-16 (not including potential defections):
BC
'Cuse
UConn
Pitt
'Nova
Maryland (SEC, Big Ten?)
UVA
VA Tech (SEC?)
UNC
NCSU
Duke
Wake
GT
Clemson
FSU
Death Penalty 'U'

I'd take WVU, Pitt, UConn, and Rutgers if I was the ACC...

It's a nice thought...but does UNC even have any thing left in football?

Cuse makes the most sense to me for the ACC. In line academically with the ACC, basketball is the number one sport, but football has shown some potential the past year. Pitt seems like a no-brainer since PSU will block them to the Big 10 and gives them another nice basketball/football school and adds a new market.

All the uppity ACC fans act like WVU will be a black eye on the conference since they're sub-par academically but they need a football power to contend with FSU and WVU is their best option. UConn gets the fourth spot because they've almost become a blue blood in CBB based on the last 20 years, but they need to clean up their program. If Rutgers wasn't going b10 they would be targeted over UConn IMO.
