SIAP, did a search

LINK

quote:

Future revenue distribution became a topic when The Star learned that the five schools facing uncertain futures — Kansas, Missouri, Kansas State, Iowa State and Baylor — made an offer to use their shares of penalty money to ensure a certain level of revenue distribution to Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

The penalty money — which would be revenue withheld from distribution to departing members Colorado and Nebraska over the next two years — could total $35 million to $40 million, according to a source.

The money could be used to bring the Longhorns, Sooners and Aggies, who had interest from more than one other conference, to a distribution level comparable to what they would have received by jumping to another conference.

The estimated payout to a member of an expanded Pacific-10 was around $20 million.

The three Big 12 powerbrokers would use this fund to reach that amount, but according to a source close to the Big 12, the revenue projections from future media rights could make the fund unnecessary.

quote:

Texas president Bill Powers said Tuesday that the Longhorns don’t expect to draw from the fund. "There have been reports that there's going to be a special deal for some of us using penalty money or other money to guarantee Texas and possibly other schools a particular value," Powers said. "We have heard about that. We’re not part of it."

Too bad that Nebraska said today that they will not be paying since their departure did not impede or hinder the progress of the Big 12.

Good for Nebraska. I'm hoping for a knock-down, drag-out fight, where Texas can show its arse some more.

So, let me get this straight...

1. Texas and Missouri both refuse at the Big12 meetings to pledge their committment to the Big12. This is a fact, per multiple sources.

2. Nebraska, therefore, says "Alright then, we're out. We're going to the Big10."

3. Now the Big12, whose defacto leader is Texas (the one that started this, have you), expects Nebraska to pay them a penalty for leaving the Big12, when in fact the Big12 actually was able to secure more money from the networks after Nebraska's departure.

this whole deal is a mess. Thank God we are the SEC and don't have to deal with this stuff.

Damn, Texas is like the mafia. Two teams leave the Big 12 and have to pay an exit penalty, and Texas, OU and since A&M drew a line in the sand, get all that money. I would be pissed as hell if I was those other 7 schools in the Big Whatever.

Link? I'm curious how they'll do that since the conference collects the TV money and then distributes it at the end of the year.
