if notre dame, texas, ohio state, michigan, florida etc start regularly playing thursday night games on ESPN do you really believe those ratings marks would still stand? my lord.

the point still stands

the SEC would want more thursday night national games, and WVU is all about playing games on that night, and already do well.

my lord, you are dense.

Slive always seemed like he had a master-plan but this is the most important time for conferences in the history of college football and the SEC is going to be a massive loser in all of this. Bottom of the barrel.

West Virginia has a top notch basketball program that could come in and immediately compete with Vanderbilt, Florida and Kentucky—creating instant rivalries there.

There is also, of course, their football program. If they were in the SEC East this year, they'd be competing with South Carolina and Florida for the SEC East crown.

West Virginia is a nearly perfect fit for the SEC and it may end up being the final piece of a 14 team SEC super-conference.

watering down the SEC product with a WVU; makes no sense economically. more teams=less revenue to go around.

but, according to thedoc, since they want to play thursday night games, i guess they are thee "perfect fit"

WVU brings huge parts of the the Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Washington DC TV markets, as well as residual parts of the Philly/NY/NJ markets.

this is what matters at the end of the day

LINK

its not about thursday night games, its not about having a redneck fanbase, its about fricking $$$.

and why i bothered to get into a discussion with someone who believe kansas state is going added to the big ten is my mistake; i should have known better.

You are thinking in simplistic terms. Of available teams left, WVU seems to be the most logical and will add to the national appeal of the SEC. Expansion is something that will happen regardless of what you think.

yes we are only an hour from pittsburgh and have a huge following in western pa, pitt has no fan base to speak of

The DC area is full of wvu fans due to many grads moving there or the larger amount of students/alumni from the area and same goes for NY/NJ

How does WVU water down the SEC East? They have a clearly better program than Kentucky and Vandy, historically. They are historically ahead of USC, though currently behind them, though they are historically behind Tennessee and Georgia though currently ahead of them.

WVU won a share of the Big East title in 6 of the 20 years of the conference. That's a pretty good run. WVU is a for real football squad.

you are the SEC, the most powerful conference in the country...why settle for WVU? thats the disconnect here. while they are a decent option, there are far better options.

several ACC schools should be creaming themselves at the thought of joining the SEC.

GT and Miami make the most sense financially.

Yes. Huge.

West Virginia doesn't have a pro football team.

WVU is THE team the whole state watches
