does anyone know how a conference "readjusts" its exit fee? shouldn't that be something bargained for or set before the year?

if it can be reset arbitrarily at any point in time, what's to keep the ACC (or another similarly defensive conference) from saying its, oh, $500M?

The SEC's options, if they are to expand....will be limited. What are the available options now..? Mizzou, WVU, Louisville, S. Florida?

Well, I'm pretty sure the members voted for it. It wasn't an arbitrary decision by an ACC management group. If the members vote to change it to $500M, that is their decision to make.

In basketball an football, WVU would bring national viewers. See how many are watching this Sat. night. Most wouldn't tune in to see LSU vs Ole Miss.

Just like the conference presidents voted to add Pitt and Syracuse, the decision to raise the buyout was made at the presidential level.

I really hope ESPN laughs Slive out of the room when he comes to try and renegotiate.

This will probably happen......the ACC is locking up new major markets, the Pac looks to be bringing on monster programs in Texas and OU and the SEC is making marginal additions.

Slive always seemed like he had a master-plan but this is the most important time for conferences in the history of college football and the SEC is going to be a massive loser in all of this. Bottom of the barrel.

ok that makes sense. it just seems that every time there's a media reference to an increased exit fee, there's no mention that the member institutions met to discuss, vote, or approve.

Yeah, Doc...not sure why so many people are resistant to WVU. They are a natural for the SEC.

What new markets? NY? Pittsburgh?

See my other post about this. The cities in the northeast (Boston, NY, etc.) and Miami are all about their professional teams and could care less about college football. Acquiring Syracuse, Pitt, BC, Miami is not as much of a lock of the markets in those cities as it presents. Most people in Miami could really care less about the Canes, it's all about the Dolphins. In NY, it's all about the Giants and Jets, they don't really care about Syracuse. Boston...the Red Sox, Patriots, etc. Boston College is nothing to them.

this is lol

TCU and aTm make the SEC native to both houston and dallas, which is big.
Mizzou makes the SEC native to 2 additional large media markets.
WVU does not add a major market, but expands the footprint and fits culturally.

its not that bad

No reason to panic. Other conferences may add some stronger teams to get their numbers up but the fact remains the BCS Champions all play in the SEC! The LSU, Bama, and Florida's are not going anywhere. The SEC will still offer more quality foot ball games then any other conference.

at the current 12 the SEC is still a stronger football conference - and we will prove it by making it 6 in a row this year.

Totally delusional. The SEC will still be dominant if only adding mediocre teams with small markets. It still will be the strongest football conference at the top, and increase it's basketball exposure by far.

The SEC is the one conference that didn't need to expand to increase it's power. Adding a few teams will only make it stronger.

WVU is ok and they do bring decent FB and BB, but they don't really bring recruits or TV viewers. A number of good to mediocre ACC teams would have been better in that regard so WVU is really a step down from what was originally anticipated.

You are forgetting one crucial thing. The team has to WANT to join the SEC. We can't just say you and poof they are ours. WVU is probably the best team that we could get that wanted to leave their current conference.

there is some merit to this.
why would teams like FSU or VT want to leave the ACC? they have a massive buyout and completely own that conference. why give that up for marginally more money in a tv contract and MUCH harder competition. they arent going to BCS bowls every year if they have to compete in the SEC

If I'm not mistaken WVU has the most all time wins of any school never to win a national championship.

Not that bad? Wow, I'd say this is "cup runneth over" kind of expansion. I'd prefer to keep things smaller, but clearly that is not what other conferences have in mind, so in order to not be left in the dust it's clear there will be 16 teams in the SEC before much longer. I don't see the PAC-12 stopping at 14. And the ACC can poach 2 more from the remains of the Big East or Big 12. So while I might prefer to add in Clemson or FSU or VT or GA Tech, the teams on your list are very good options, and two of them (aTm and WVU) look like they are "in" or soon will be, regardless of Baylor. Plus I'd add that WVU does get us into the Pittsburgh TV market - they are regionally close.
