Top programs by profits
Interesting article ranking programs by profits. Louisville has the most profitable basketball program, and is 21st overall ahead of most football programs. UK football makes significantly more money than UK basketball.

Common knowledge, at least for UK fans. I don't see why it would be surprising to anyone, though.

Not only is Louisville basketball the most profitable basketball program in the country, it’s more profitable than the football program at any Big East school. It’s also more profitable than any football program in the ACC or Pac-10!

"The world's largest bar" will turn into "the world's largest non alcoholic bar" once they move to another conference. And you can say bye bye to those big profits.

football fans are accustomed to getting fleeced and seem very willing to line up, bend over and drop their drawers. i love LSU and SEC football but i don't love it any more than i did when a good seat cost $10, parking was free and there was no mandantory TAF fee's for the priviledge of buying season tickets. imagine what the university could be if we supported it as well. just sayin'.

my understanding is you have to take these profit #s with a grain of salt as programs can allocate profits from one sport and allocate them to another sport.

The comparison between basketball revenues and profits is interesting, but not precise. That's because schools have latitude in their filings with the Department of Education in whether they attribute some expenses and revenues to a specific sport or a more general classification for their entire athletic department. Many schools use that latitude to have revenue and expenses for one sport equal one another rather than show a profit or a loss, a trick of accounting that wouldn't pass muster with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Some schools even make their programs look worse

Accounting in college athletics ain't nothing but a shell game. Although you may extract some general relevant information from such an analysis as this to believe anything more is folly.
