The SEC really has no other choice but to go to 16 teams if they are going to expand. At 14 teams with divisions you are asking the whole conference to play an extra conference game. With 16 teams everything is status quo, but you only have to add the 2 play off games.

Can you imagine those 2 weeks of football if you had a couple playoff games to get to Atlanta?

Hahaha, and just leave LSU with a walk-in to Atlanta every year?

This is exactly what they want.

I would rather have Bama's permanent be Tennessee. Screw Auburn, they can have Georgia.

That's the best proposal I've seen so far. Vandy/UK paired up makes the most sense of all.

I would love putting the Gumps in the East & dropping UF.

Dude, look again. Bama and UT are in the same division in that line up.

Ok, why did they throw Ole Miss into the East? Doesn't make sense.

It does NOT have to be east and west... In fact, I can see them dividing schools within the same state.

but if you speculate that VPI is #14, then it all stays the same w/ permanent out of division teams w/ A&M and VPI matched together.

UA (UT)
AU (UGA)
LSU (UF)
A&M (VPI)
OM (VU)
MSU (USC)
UArk (UK)
---------
UGA (AU)
UF (LSU)
USC (MSU)
UT (UA)
UK (UArk)
VPI (A&M)
VU (OM)

the only change I made was to switch USC permanent from UArk to MSU and MSU's to UK. nothing against UArk, but it's been a hard rivalry to get going. they have been a thorn in our sides when we've had good years. MSU was originally our permanent before they went to 2 rotators. and Missouri's boot heel is the only thing separating Kentucky & Arkansas.

this will allow for a 9 game conference schedule that will keep 2 rotating games or a 8 game schedule w/ 1 rotating game.

16 team format

West Division 1
LSU
ARKY
OM
_________ team to be added later

West Division 2
BAMA
AU
MSU
_________ team to be added later

East Division 1
TENN
S CAR
Vandy
_________ team to be added later

East Division 2
UF
UGA
KY
_________ Team to be added later

We still get our traditional rivalries. We also get some flexibility in scheduling. You could see an AU vs Tenn or a Bama vs UGA more often than once every 5 or 6 years while keeping the total conference games at 7.

Tennessee wouldn't be playing their biggest rivalry anymore.

Who Alabama or Fl? They can still play both. The only games that would have to be added would be 2 play in games to the SECCG.

What do you guys think about adding Louisville to the SEC?

Obvious basketball addition but their football program has potential. Fill out the State of Kentucky. Add another market.

I like it.

If it was 7 conference games and the team to be added was placed in each division, they wouldn't be able to.

They would have 3 divisional conference games. Add 2 or 3 permanent rivalry games with BAMA UF and UGA if that's who you wanted. That leaves you with 1 or 2 games to play whoever you wanted to play in the conference that year.

Could you live without playing KY or some new team every year?

I thought you meant everyone in East Division 1 would play the teams in East Division 2. My mistake.

I understand. I guess my over all point is a 16 team league does less damage to traditional rivalries than a 14 team league. With 14 teams you either have to drop some traditional rivalries or force everyone to play an 8 game conference schedule.

With 16 everything stays pretty much the same, and traditional rivalries are better preserved. The only major change would be the addition of 2 divisional playoff games to reach Atlanta.

permanent opponent needed to be gone years ago.

16 teams, 2 8 team divisions. NO regular season games outside of the division, so 7 conference games, 5 OOC games. East only plays West in the SECCG.

Bring in another big 12 team, move Bama and Auburn to the East. Bama can keep playing UT every year (the conference would obviously crumble if this game didn't happen every year)
