Maybe a stupid question that has already been discussed, but when would expansion actually come into effect? When would we see Nebraska playing a Big Ten schedule?

I think it might depend on the situation. The only one known so far is Colorado and that will be in 2012.

2012 is what most reports are suggesting. Seems appropriate. Two years is normal for these situations. Arkansas took two years to make the move, and Colorado is beginning Pac-11 play in 2012.

This will be a clean transition for scheduling. The Big 12 and Big Ten each do their OOC games first and then eight straight conference games (generally). Nebraska's four OOC games for 2010 are their first four games--that's what their Big Ten schedule would be like. It's only a matter of breaking away from the Big 12 asap. They can do this by 2011, realistically.

2012 is the date for three reasons: (1) It gives the schools time to adjust their schedules and arrangements in all college sports, (2) It gives time to renegotiate TV contracts, and (3) It is the last year of the four year BCS cycle - so they want the conferences in place so the BCS can make the correct conferences automatic qualifiers and the BCS can adjust bowl tie-ins.

None of the six conferences will lose their autobids if they still exist. Trust me.

I am assuming that the Big XII and the Big East will probably have imploded by then. I think a lot of people assume the same thing.
