That doesn't make the majority of the area pro-union. That just means that we had a few sorry bastards. There was some pro-union sentiment in north Alabama, but the majority were pro- Confederate. Every state in the Confederacy except South Carolina had units/regiments join the yankee army.

I'm not arguing that what you just wrote is wrong. I was simply using it as an example that the populations of the individual states were far from being unanimous in their opinions. Illinois, Indiana and Ohio had very strong pockets of pro-Confederate sentiment as did the rank and file citizenry of New york City.

I agree. I also agree with the other poster about enjoying your posts about the war. I am a historian on the war between the states and I could talk about the subject 24/7.
