With all of the spin about TCU being such a great add, I thought I would dig up average attendance numbers from 2010.
2010 average attendance:

11. Kansas - 44,851
12. Baylor - 40,043
TCU - 42,466

No way in hell does Baylor average 40,000+ fans

So the conference has lost 215,005 in average attendance and just replaced that with a gain for 42,446 resulting in a net loss of 172,539.
Missouri is on the way out the door and the potential replacement that the newspapers mention again and again is Louisville. There is a additional loss of 10,892.
How any conference official or AD can spin this with a straight face is beyond me.

Hate to tell you this... and I am all for a&m to the SEC, but to the nation... TCU>a&m in football. So it just seems to everyone outside of Texas that TCU is an even trade.
ETA
Myself, I know a&m brings a lot more to the table, but Big 12-2-1 will spin it that way

TCU has lost to Baylor and SMU this season... I don't think anyone in the Nation thinks about them anymore.

So, they had a really good Qb, played weak competition, and had a good D. What is their record if they are playing good teams? That's a big question mark. A two year run is not the same as being a sleeping giant like Mich, ND, or USC.
Don't kid yourself, TCU wasn't already in a major BCS conference until recently for one reason, $$$.

I'm just saying, in the last 2-4 years, TCU is "better" than those teams, just like they are better than A&M.
And the above poster is right....the fact that those teams have history makes it a silly argument.....just like the argument out of Austin that TCU makes the Big 12 better than A&M did.

Im responding to whoever said the rest of the country sees TCU > A&M
casual CFB fans have no IDEA what a TCU is
A&M "prestige" dominates TCU in every way is all I am saying

A&M (2001 - 2010)
vs BCS Opponents 40 - 56
vs Ranked Opponents 8 - 31
vs Top 10 Opponents 2 - 16
in Bowl Games 1 - 5 (beat TCU in 2001 Galleryfurniture.com bowl)
TCU (2001 - 2010)
vs BCS Opponents 16 - 5
vs Ranked Opponents 9 - 7
vs Top 10 Opponents 5 - 5
in Bowl Games 6 - 2
TCU has been pulling in some decent recruits and with Patterson as coach, I think despite this down year will continue to be relevant.
Of course, If all we're talking about is attendance then its A&M by a mile.

History is only important to the fans of the team, especially when they are not winning anymore.

You're dumb. I haven't done the math, but didn't TCU win the Rose Bowl last year? Regardless of what conference they play in, it paid the same. Last time I checked, a&m is O-fer in BCS bowl games.

Sucks for them - losing three of your top five drawing programs

Two things:
1. Home attendance is not a big deal as far as the conference is concerned. TV Market is much more important. Besides, TCU's stadium is very nice and the capacity is about 45,000, so they are basically selling out every game.
2. Expansion, at least for the SEC, is a 50-100 year commitment. Who had the best football team over the past 5 years is not even a consideration. It's about TV markets, population, school size, alumni base, etc.

I still don't understand why TCU is a good add.

Exactly, it is now a huge drop from #2 OU at 85K to #3 TX Tech at 57K. And I had always assumed that TX Tech and OK State had better attendance than these figures show

They aren't. But it's not because of their home attendance. I don't think the Big 12 had a lot of choices, however.

Also, schools like Baylor have their home attendance inflated from home games against Texas, Oklahoma, A&M, etc. TCU hasn't had the luxury of playing those teams. Their numbers are generated against a much shittier schedule.
