Arky doesn't fit traditional SEC culture to this day, which is what makes it so hilarious. They act like they are SEC traditionals and are the same culture, but Arkansas and Mizzou are closer culturally than Arky and any other SEC state.
Do you even get out of the house?
The delta side of Arkansas is more Memphis/Mississippi culture than anything. Little Rock is basically Memphislight, and south Arkansas is mirrored images with North LA. and NE Texas.
A small portion resembles southern Missouri culture (hillbilly).
Either you dont know Arkansas or you dont know Missouri.

need to get a reality check. It was not 20 years ago that the SEC allowed you to join despite tons of schools' fans being completely against it.
The only one in need of a reality check is you.

Ummmm... They don't. Culturally Arkansas is nothing like the rest of the SEC states. If you can't see it than you are delusional. Having a delusional fanbase isn't an SEC tradition, it's a college football thing. I've been to games in Arky too, and they are nothing like any other SEC school. Least fun trip.

USCe has transitioned much better
They have. They fit culturally and have built legitimate rivalries unlike Arkansas. They have a rivalry they've tried to force with LSU, but no LSU fan sees it that way. Culturally USCe fits the SEC much better than Arky, there is no doubt about that.

What cracks me up is the fact that your calling mizzou a new SEC team and they just said they have "NO INTEREST".
I am not the one bitching about how they don't fit the culture of the SEC nor offer real big markets like many Arky and USCe fans are though. This isn't about Mizzou getting in, it's about the bitching by certain fanbases who are hypocrites.

You saying that we don't have a right to say "We don't want you" and you just said you are against the expansion is rather amusing also.
Not when you are using the same exact arguments brought against your teams, yet they were let in.

We can say whatever the hell we damn well want to about our feelings on how we want the conference to grow. Sorry but that's just the way it is.
How dare I insult fans of the "Flagship"

What is it about conference expansion that brings all the dumbass lsu fans out here?
Posted on 8/13/11 at 1:00 pm to Geaux2002
You're not insulting me. You're just not that bright if you actually think the SEC isn't going to listen to Arkansas' or USC's opinion on the matter just because they have only been members for 20 years.

Not many arky fans see you as rivals either(SEC set up the rivalry)

Anybody who thinks either Mizzou or aTm is a better SEC cultural fit than Arkansas doesn't know much about either.
We aren't Texans. We were never Texans. If anything, we were more like an SEC program playing in the SWC than a Big 12 program.
South Louisiana culture is its own thing. The rest of Louisiana has more in common with Arkansas than it does with Tennessee or Kentucky or Carolina.
Arky to the Big 12 is the du jour flame when somebody be mad about Arkansas.
Just like Ole Miss racism, Florida jorts, and LSU Corndogs.

everyone gets real pumped up for the big South Carolina-Florida game
seeing as how the former coach of UF is now at USC those folks do get pumped up and has been a great game for awhile now
IMO any SEC fan bitchin about expanding is trying to cover their own teams arse
Im down with all 4 coming, welcome and let's make it 24 in about 5 years

I never said Arky and USCe fans shouldn't voice their opionions. My point is it's stupid and hypocritical of them to use the same arguments used against them 20 years ago.

I've been to Fayetteville numerous times and other areas of Arkansas. Not one felt like the South to me, and being like North Louisiana is nothing like being an SEC Southerner IMO. Bible Belt areas aren't fitting into that culture.

So then has Arky set up any legitimate rivalries in 20 years? No.

20 years ago there was a clear cut reason for expansion: 12 teams and a CCG
The 2 division, SECCG format is what helped the SEC become the dominant force it is today. It became more exciting. It became more competitive.
Expansion now doesn't have the same reasoning.
Arkansas and South Carolina are Southeastern states.
Texas and Missouri aren't.
The two expansions really aren't comparable.

I agree with your whole post, but especially this part. If you're using South Louisiana as the standard for what "Southern" or "SEC" culture is, you're doing it wrong. S LA is a great and unique culture and yes, it is Southern, but it's exclusive to Louisiana and Gulf coast MS. I think some people here don't realize that sometimes.

Convenient how this magically becomes an argument with some kind of basis.

South Louisiana culture IS LSU, not North Louisiana. LSU has fans throughout the state, but LSU's culture is based on South Louisiana, and has little to do with North Louisiana/Bible Belt culture that you claim Arkansas is like.

Very true, but Arkansas being like North Louisiana which is not like the rest of the SEC culture is also true. Just because some parts of Arkansas are like North Louisiana (which is not like the rest of SEC country), doesn't make them a better fit.
Posted on 8/13/11 at 1:16 pm to Geaux2002
You do realize that South Louisiana is one of the only locations in SEC country that is NOT the Bible Belt right?
Posted on 8/13/11 at 1:17 pm to Geaux2002
That's nice. But here's a tip: LSU is not the SEC.
LSU culture is not the culture of the entire SEC or the entire southeast.
There is life happening north of Bunkie.
