I would think so unless he feels he would have an easier path to the BCS in a weaker conferance that's not as competitive.

Arky is certainly a better job, but why
Would they want him? I don't think it would excite anyone.

i'll never understand for the life of me why certain coaches are freaking great- as long as you dont check their win/loss record. all while les miles is the worst coach ever, with 8-5 as a disastrous year. tom o'brien has lost 7 games 3 out of the 4 years hes been at NC state. this was his banner year: 8-4. i would be pisssssed to have him anywhere near my program

feel free to throw kirk ferentz in that category too. the most brilliant 8-5 coaches money can buy

**this is not an attack on tom o'brien. merely the perception some coaches have compared to others**

That would be a step back in my opinion. O'Brien is a good coach but he hasn't done anything of great significance at NC State & he has never won a championship as a Head Coach.

The first guy Jeff Long would go after resides in Auburn right now.

This is all pointless right now though.

Obrian is a good coach. Look what he did at BC. He beaten UNC 4 in a row. A couple tough losses this year

Is it really? ArKansas isn't that great of a job and the only reason they got Petrio is because he flamed out of the NFL and colleges didn't want to hire a guy who would bolt in three years. Which is what he would be doing if he left this year.

If Petrino wasn't happy at Arkansas - he'd be gone already. Arkansas, being such a low-tier program beat your "top-tier" team 3 of the last 4 years.

Back to the point, if Petrino leaves, I have been very impressed with Skip as a coach.

Nobody called ArKansas a low-tier program. ArKansas just has a very rural and small population which makes it hard to recruit. If you can get kids from North La and East Texas, then the program does ok. If not, you get that great talent like McFadden, M. Jones, Felix Jones, M. Mustain that comes out of ArKansas every few years, but it's hard to build a "talent laden" team. Petrino is a great college offensive coach and they will score a ton of points on offense as long as he's there.

That being said, I'd think that Raleigh, N.C. is a better location than Fayetville and the population is better. However, it's basketball and baseball country and in the ACC. It's a lateral move IMO.

there's more to a program than the surrounding recruiting base. calling Arkansas a lateral move from UNC or NC St. is pretty insulting. I might as well say UCF is a lateral move from LSU considering all the talent in Florida.

that said, Petrino has broadened recruiting quite a bit. He's hitting Texas and Missouri harder than Nutt ever did, and I think we have more Arizona players committed than even Az St. If the good players aren't in Ark, he'll get them elsewhere.

Ypu raise good points but I think people around here in Ny see Arkansas as a football school and State as basketball. Arkansas has a higher recognition factor football wise. Not that NY matters in this case but thats where I am.

Fo ex., Arkansas will win a BCS game before state will (Hopefully in a few weeks)
